La Dott.ssa Giovanna Baron è ricercatrice (tenure-track) in Chimica Farmaceutica presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Farmaceutiche dell’Università degli Studi di Milano. Laureata con lode in Chimica e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche e Dottore di Ricerca in Scienze Farmaceutiche, ha maturato una solida esperienza nel campo dell’analisi e bioanalisi di composti bioattivi, con particolare attenzione alla metabolomica e alla spettrometria di massa.
La sua attività di ricerca si concentra sull’identificazione di piccole molecole biologicamente attive in matrici vegetali, spesso derivate da sottoprodotti agroalimentari, e sullo studio della loro biodisponibilità, bioattività e meccanismo d’azione, utilizzando tecnologie analitiche avanzate come la cromatografia liquida accoppiata alla spettrometria di massa e proteomica quantitativa. Si occupa inoltre sviluppo di metodi analitici per la caratterizzazione di ingredienti cosmetici funzionali, tra cui l’acido ialuronico.
Ha svolto un periodo di ricerca all’estero all’Università di Ginevra e collabora con numerosi gruppi internazionali. È autrice di oltre 50 articoli scientifici su riviste peer-reviewed e partecipa attivamente all’attività editoriale come guest editor e revisore per diverse riviste scientifiche di rilievo. È docente in corsi universitari e post-laurea, dove insegna metodi innovativi per la caratterizzazione di prodotti naturali e loro metaboliti.
Attualmente è Principal Investigator e responsabile di unità in progetti di ricerca finanziati e membro di diverse società scientifiche, tra cui la Società Chimica Italiana. Coniuga una forte attività scientifica con un impegno nella formazione di giovani ricercatori, seguendo studenti di laurea, dottorato e post-doc nei loro progetti sperimentali.
Dr. Giovanna Baron is a tenure-track researcher in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Milan. She holds a Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (cum laude) and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her research focuses on the analysis and bioanalysis of bioactive compounds, with a strong emphasis on metabolomics, mass spectrometry, and advanced analytical techniques.
Dr. Baron’s work is mainly devoted to the identification and characterization of biologically active small molecules in plant-derived matrices, often obtained from agro-industrial by-products. She investigates their bioavailability, biological activity, and mechanisms of action using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) and proteomic approaches. She also develops analytical methods for the characterization of functional cosmetic ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid and its metabolites.
She has carried out a research stay abroad at the University of Geneva and collaborates with several international groups. She is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and actively contributes to scientific dissemination as a reviewer and guest editor for several journals. At the University of Milan, she teaches graduate and doctoral courses on the analysis of natural products and their metabolites using innovative analytical workflows.
Dr. Baron is currently Principal Investigator and local unit leader in nationally funded research projects and is an active member of several scientific societiessuch as Italian Chemical Society. Alongside her research, she is committed to training the next generation of scientists, supervising undergraduate, PhD, and postdoctoral researchers in the development of advanced analytical methods for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications.
